Planning application no. SL/2008/1173, Booths
Tuesday, 16 December 2008
Booths has submitted a planning application for a store to be located on the Bateman’s Toyota site opposite the train station. The South Lakeland District (SLDC) Planning Committee will consider the application at its meeting to be held on 27 January 2009. Any comments on the application should be sent directly to SLDC, either by letter, email or via its website. Copies to the Town Clerk would be welcome, and will then be circulated to Town Councillors. The Town Council will be deciding on its response to the application at its regular monthly meeting to be held on Monday 12 January 2009. Anyone who wishes to make comments to the Town Council should do so by email or letter, to arrive no later than Monday 5 January 2009. Please indicate if you wish to speak on the matter at the Town Council meeting. Each contribution will be limited to 3 minutes, and it may be necessary to restrict the number of speakers, depending on the estimated time required to complete the full agenda for the meeting. If this becomes necessary, selection of speakers will be based on criteria designed to achieve as fair a balance of views as possible. This is a Planning issue, and as such, any comments must be relevant to current planning law and guidelines, the South Lakeland Local Plan and the emerging Local Development Framework. Please note that, although the Planning Committee has an obligation to consider the views of the Town Council, it must also consider individual representations received. It is important, therefore, that you make your views known directly to SLDC. It is two and a half years since it was decided to prepare the bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund and it is now possible for SLDC to complete the Stage One Application and work in conjunction with ‘Berners Vision Partnership’ and progress to the Stage Two application and then, hopefully, a grant.

Monday, 20 October 2008
The Consultants contracted to provide maps, sketches, plans and costs completed their work in September and the 3Ps Project Team has continued its work to finish the bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Committee, at its meeting on the 6th October expressed satisfaction with progress and was informed that a meeting had been arranged with District Council Officers on the 10th October to review the project.
A meeting has also been arranged with the Heritage Lottery Fund on the 24th October at which it is hoped to receive guidance about the acceptability of the scheme and how to continue the application process. It is also anticipated that their view of the Grange Regeneration proposals recently put forward by the five developers will be discussed.
If the re-development of the Lido and the provision of the bridge link to the promenade is undertaken through the Regeneration Scheme the cost of the remainder of the renovation works to the Promenade, Ornamental and Park Road Gardens is reduced to approximately £3million of which 25%, or £750,000 will be need to be provided from the Regeneration Scheme in order to access the Heritage Lottery Funding.
It is planned to hand over the completed Stage 1 Lottery Bid to the District Council Cabinet on the 12th November when they hold their meeting in Grange.
